A Letter from the President
Dear Brothers of Phi Kappa Psi,
My name is Luka Zaric, and I serve as the President of our Indiana Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi at Indiana University. I am originally from Manhattan Beach, California, and was initiated as part of the fall 2023 pledge class. I only recently was introduced to this position, but I am eager to serve my duties, work with the rest of our Executive Board, and work with all the brothers of our chapter to grow our presence at IU; fulfilling the qualities that make us Phi Kappa Psi gentlemen. Our chapter currently holds 170 members, includ- ing the recently initiated fall of 2024 pledge class, containing 28 new members and a vital addition to our house’s resilient Little 500 bike team. Over the past few months of the fall semester, the Indiana Beta Chapter has gotten back into the swing of things at IU, contributing a plethora of efforts to philanthropic, academic, and chapter-growing activities.
Academically, our house has made continuous strides within the Kelley School of Business Workshop Network this semester, with nine Phi Psi brothers being accepted into the Capital Markets & Banking, Investment Banking, and Private Equity Workshops. The Private Equity Workshop at IU is the most selective program at Kelley, choosing only 19 students out of hundreds participating in a rigorous process for 8 weeks. Our chapter was fortunate enough to have two brothers accepted into the program, doubling last year’s amount.

Philanthropically, Indiana Beta Chapter recently participated in Bloomington’s Treats with Greeks event, where IU fraternity and sorority chapters host trick-or-treating for the local youth of Bloomington to enjoy. Ten of our brothers gathered on North David Baker Avenue to hand out candy and interact with Bloomington community children and families. On top of Treats with Greeks, Indiana Beta has given back to the community in and around Bloomington by volunteering weekly at Monroe Community Kitchen. Brother and former Vice President Matthew Brock-Utne ’26 has led this effort to reach hundreds of hours of service and help those in need around campus.
Outside of academics and philanthropy, our chapter has held numerous on and off-campus brotherhood events to keep membership and morale at an all-time high. Most recently, eight senior Phi Psi men gathered to run an unofficial 13-mile half-marathon through the streets of Bloomington. These brothers organized their own course to run, and plan to organize another in the spring with even more Phi Psi brothers involved. In addition, Indiana Beta hosted “Frost”: our largest national party of the year on November 9th.
Our chapter was lucky enough to have both Indiana Beta alumni visit for the weekend, as well as brothers from Phi Kappa Psi Michigan, Michigan State, University of Virginia, Purdue, and more. The substantial party took place just hours after the Indiana versus Michigan football game held at IU. Brothers of our chapter, as well as friends and family visiting from home, enjoyed a home game win for IU’s recently 10-0 football program and a celebration at Indiana Beta to follow. In a record season for Indiana’s football team, brothers of Phi Psi have gathered each weekend to watch the game both in person at Memorial Stadium, and at brotherhood watch-parties hosted in our chapter house on North Eagleson Avenue.
With only a month of school left for the semester, brothers are looking forward to participating in more philanthropy events such as the Indiana University Dance Marathon, brotherhood events such as a paintball tournament, and a strong finish to the football season. We welcome any and everyone to reach out; feel free to get in touch with our chapter by contacting luzaric@iu.edu.
As brothers of Phi Kappa Psi, we thank all of you for your contribution to our chapter and organization, and look to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Luka Zaric ’23
